Are you seeking a Fort Worth Buddhist meditation group and community? Please Join Us!
Hello friends, My name is Dale Berkebile and like Thay (Thich Nhat Hanh) and Martin Luther King, Jr. I have a DREAM of a better world and building what MLK, Jr called a Beloved Community.
We are a small group, very early in development but have some beautiful, strong, loving people. We are building the beloved community, a healing space, and an empowering space.
In this mindfulness community we are building on what Thay (Thich Nhat Hanh) calls Engaged Buddhism. This means living a mindful lifestyle all day, everyday, or getting as close to it as possible. This all starts with personal healing.
Buddhist philosophy is a powerful tool to help us work towards overcoming Anger, Hatred, Anxiety, Stress, and so many other things we deal with in normal every day society. So much so that self-care is sometimes seen as an act of rebellion.
Today we are in very divisive times over politics, climate change, racism, and violence. My goal is to find ways to bring peace to ourselves so we can take it out into the world, and have fun doing it.
I am looking for folks that feel inspired when reading these words that want to join a community where they are seen and heard and valued for their ideas and also seeking a safe community to work on themselves.
I am interested in building leaders that take their healed lifestyle out into the world to love and support others out in society. This could be just sharing a smile with a stranger or as big as you can dream.
What could our Fort Worth Buddhist meditation group look like?
We are at the beginning stage so dream with me help me shape the Fort Worth Buddhist meditation group…
So typically meditation meetings could include…
- Sitting Meditation
- Walking Meditation
- Silent Meditation
- Dharma Talk & Group Discussion
Why would you want to join us on this journey?
Why would you want to join a new startup sangha?
- Let’s start with the main goal… personal healing. We are a community working to heal together.
- You feel a desire to be in and apart of a loving and supportive community.
- If you are open minded and maybe a bit of an activist – this might be a way to find ethical ways to engage in the local community to make positive change.
- If you are looking to try meditation or build a consistent meditation practice, then this might be for you.
- If you are looking to learn about Buddhism and/or deeper ways to practice Buddhist Philosophy this will be a good group for you.
- If you want to build a solid mindfulness practice, community is a powerful way to do that.
- We are open to all belief systems and do not get hung up on dogmas of any kind including buddhist ones.
I am a modern guy and want to embrace mindfulness leaders like – Thich Nhat Hanh, Pema Chodron, Sharon Salzberg, Tara Brach and others
I’m glad you found this site, I think having a website and blog, having a social media presence, doing our best to get found and being engaged in our local community, and to help and serve as many people as possible is an important part of the practice. On the Bodhisattva path we are called to help others as much as we help ourselves. I want to build a solid weekly group meeting. Then work closely with some folks in the mindfulness community and help them step into facilitation or planning roles to help build a stronger community.
I dream of 6 to 7 people that have the heart of the Bodhisattva and want to not only heal themselves but support and lift others up to do the same. This might mean building community around multiple meetings a week, helping to build a local multi-day retreat, building a mindfulness and/or Buddhist prison program, or get engaged within the Fort Worth and larger community to be a local resource beyond our own personal and regular mindfulness practices.
So the thing is… I am a dreamer. I dream big.
My purpose in life is to challenge people to become innovative leaders so that we can change the world together.
I love people and want to make a big impact in the world.
If this resonate with you, please reach out and let’s have a conversation.
I feel called to teach and build ethical leaders. I feel called to serve. I feel called to help people live as authentically and as ethically as possible. I want people that are passionate about community, mindfulness, and Buddhism.
Do you want to change the world in a positive way? Let's do it together and work towards Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity within our group and out in the world!
I believe we are BETTER TOGETHER and this includes diversity and equity and inclusion. Yes, I am a straight white guy. What do I know about diversity?
Well, I have spent the last several years seeking to understand racism (and other forms of oppression). I grew up Christian and in all my churches and even in many mindfulness groups they were predominantly white folks. This is fine but I would like to include and support the BIPOC community as part of our mission.
I have always had a decent group of LGBTQ+ in several of my religious/spiritual communities which I also want to continue to embrace and support. I want to work towards change and help the community at large (outside the this community) to learn to love diversity as much as we do within the community.
I also want to be inclusive and supportive to all other communities.
I hope we can build based on a DEI Framework shown in this graphic.
What the heck is a SANGHA?
The Sangha is a community that practices together. Here are a few videos related to Thay’s thoughts on Sangha and it’s importance.
What the heck is the 3 Jewels and why is this the name of this Buddhist meditation group?
Quickly the 3 Jewels is a core Buddhist concept. It stands for…
- The Buddha
- The Dharma
- The Sangha
